op. 604/2
Carl Czerny – the student of Beethoven and teacher of Liszt – is known today primarily for his collections of studies such as the ‘School of Velocity’ and the ‘Art of Finger Dexterity’. However, the Viennese composer’s output of over 1000 works also includes many sonatas, fantasias, nocturnes and variations for piano as well as chamber music, concertos and symphonies. ‘Le Désir’ (Longing) comes from the cycle ‘8 Nocturnes romantiques de différents caractères’ op. 604, published by Schott in 1843 (plate number 6820).
