Vecchi's four-voice canzonettas were among the most popular works of the late sixteenth century. They were reprinted, translated, arranged, intabulated, and imitated all over Europe for more than forty years after their first appearance. Their influence transformed the style of secular music in the last two decades of the sixteenth century.
